This is a tinted 1888 photograph taken by Frank Jay (F. J.) Haynes. Haynes first came to Yellowstone in 1881 as the official photographer for the Northern Pacific Railroad. He was one of the first concessionaires in the park and established Haynes Photo Shops throughout the park. This is a rare early albumen photo that has been tinted in period hand-coloring style.
