1937 Bozeman Main Street

This is a circa 1937 photograph taken of Main Street in Bozeman, Montana. The photographer was Albert Schlechten. The date of the photo is based on the marquee of the Ellen Theatre. It reads "Waikiki Wedding" starring Bing Crosby and Shirley Ross.

Albert and his brother Alfred moved to Bozeman in 1900 and purchased the Grant and Tippet photographic studio. They renamed the studio "Schlechten Brothers." The two brothers were considered the finest photographers in Gallatin Valley. Albert received several commissions to photograph Gallatin County, including Gallatin Canyon, Taylor Fork and the Nine Quarter Circle Ranch. Architect's Wife offers a rare collection of 17 Schlechten photographs from 1910 reproduced directly from the originals.
