Stop! End of Street Sign

What was beyond the end of the street? Farm fields? Ranch land? Did it fade into wilderness? Some origins are a myth but we know this, it is an early sign, dating back to the 1920's, based on the heavy enamel material. It is believed to have been from a larger municipality, possibly Billings, as signs of this size and material were very expensive.
