Montana Stagecoach Monida-Yellowstone - 1898 Haynes Photograph

This is a rare ca. 1898 photograph taken by Frank Jay (F. J.) Haynes. Haynes first came to Yellowstone in 1881 as the official photographer for the Northern Pacific Railroad. He was one of the first concessionaires in the park and established Haynes Photo Shops throughout the park. He established the Monida-Yellowstone (M-Y) Stage Company in 1898. This is a rare photo of one of his M-Y stagecoaches. M-Y coaches transported passengers from Monida, MT, located on the Union Pacific Railroad line, to the western entrance of the park. Haynes cut his ties to the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1905 and focused his business on the Union Pacific Railroad and its passengers.
