Albert Schlechten - Taylor Fork

This is a 1910 photograph taken of the Taylor Fork. It is an original albumen tint. The photographer was Albert Schlechten. The Taylor Fork flows into the Gallatin River near the Nine Quarter Circle Ranch. The photographer was Albert Schlechten. Albert specialized in landscape photography and his work is notable for the use of his large-format field camera, which produced 11x14 inch negatives. Taking and developing these large negatives was very labor intensive.

Albert and his brother Alfred moved to Bozeman in 1900 and purchased the Grant and Tippet photographic studio. They renamed the studio “Schlechten Brothers.”  The two brothers were considered the finest photographers in Gallatin Valley. Albert received several commissions to photograph Gallatin County, including Gallatin Canyon, Taylor Fork and the Nine Quarter Circle Ranch. Architect’s Wife offers a rare collection of 17 Schlechten photographs from 1910 reproduced directly from the originals.
